Five Sao Paolo public school teachers declared “unfit” to instruct because of obesity
Brazil’s a place where obesity is increasingly common and good teaching is in short supply, so this isn’t the sort of thing you’d expect see: Five prospective candidates to teach in the state of Sao Paulo’s public schools disqualified from the job because they’re apparently too fat.
The teachers said they received the news from doctors who administered mandatory pre-employment medical exams. The news has sparked accusations of discrimination, and one columnist wondered rhetorically what’s next, writing, “I just hope that being bald and 60 won’t disqualify me from pursuing the craft of journalism!”
