A solar wind made the colorful Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis appear as far south as Georgia on Monday evening. While the northern lights, a geomagnetic storm, usually appear in the arctic regions, a strong compression in the magnetic field around the earth allowed electrically charged particles from the solar wind to enter within 22,00 miles of the earth.

Not only was their location unique, but also the lights took a rare red hue.
