Dozens of people have been killed in a suburb of Syria’s battle-scarred city of Homs, reports say, in what activists are describing as a “new massacre”.

The reported killings come a day after the UN’s humanitarian chief visited Homs, saying parts had been devastated.

Correspondent Robert Fisk sees many parallels between what’s been happening in Homs in the past month and the massacres in Hama in Syria in 1982.

Fisk, a correspondent for The Independent, was the only western journalist to get into Hama during Hafez el-Assad’s seige in 1982. He tells host Marco Werman why what we’re seeing today in Homs is the “ghost” of the Hama killings, and why Western intervention isn’t the solution.
