Tornadoes rip through Alabama and most of the South

A tornado estimated to be nearly a mile wide has torn through much of the South. The death toll continues to rise.

Some 170 people are estimated to have died because of massive tornados and flooding in Alabama and much of the South. The Takeaway talks with a student who was near the tornado and a meteorologist to put the story in context.
