A journalist, who is an expert on al-Qaeda, has been released from prison in Yemen despite concern and disappointment from Washington over his alleged involvement with the terrorist group in the Arabian Peninsula.
Abdulelah Haider Shaye was arrested three years ago on charges of aiding Islamist militants in Yemen.
He was freed Tuesday as part of a presidential pardon.
Shai had been pardoned once before, but didn’t get out because US President Barack Obama reportedly pressured the Yemeni government to keep him behind bars.
