Israel, Palestine, Syria and violent protests over Naqba

In protests commemorating Israel’s creation, what Palestinians call the “Naqba” or the “catastrophe,” thousands of Arabs marched on Israel’s borders. Dozens were killed.

Emboldened by protests throughout the Arab world, the protests over the “Naqba” were more vociferous and more violent than in years past. Wyre Davies reports that regional politics in Syria may have allowed the protests to get out of control.
