Joel Berg, the executive director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, explains how social programs managed to prevent widespread starvation during the great recession. The recession has prolonged and extended the need for social programs as it has enlarged the population of the homeless and poor. But according to Berg,  the good news that didn’t get much mention in the just passed election is that social programs managed to prevent widespread starvation and hold the line food insecurity.
