Lead in the Developing World

More people suffer from lead poisoning in the world than are infected with HIV/AIDs ?due in large part to the improper recycling of car batteries.

The U.S. recycles almost all car batteries, but that’s not true in many developing countries. Sifting through waste to retrieve lead is a major source of income, and lead exposure, for many people in poorer countries. Perry Gottesfeld, executive director of Occupational Knowledge International explains.
