Amy Phillips of Pitchfork Media weighs in on a controversial decision by Universal Records to cut three songs from Be Your Own Pet’s American release.
When the Nashville-based punk rock band Be Your Own Pet released its second album last week, many of the group’s fans were shocked to learn that three of the catchiest songs on the record had been removed from the American edition of the album by Universal Records. This was especially surprising since the songs had already leaked to the internet- and were being released internationally by a different label. Amy Phillips is the Senior News Editor for the music website Pitchfork Media, and she’s been following the controversy surrounding Universal’s decision to cut the songs.
