As GlobalPost's Editor, Lizzy Tomei oversaw editorial operations of the website's virtual newsroom, working with colleagues in Boston and internationally to cultivate distinctive, high-quality reporting from around the planet. A member of the GlobalPost team since 2012, she previously held positions as GlobalPost's Managing Editor and Breaking News Editor.She began her career in journalism in Cambodia, where she worked first as an editor and reporter at The Cambodia Daily and later as a freelance researcher, writer and English tutor. Her reporting at the Daily between 2005 and 2007 focused on politics, human rights and crime.Lizzy has worked as a freelance editor and writer for clients based in Southeast Asia, Central America and the United States. She reported for the nonprofit San Francisco Public Press during its founding days in 2009 and 2010. During those same years she was a board member and secretary of the Society of Professional Journalists-Northern California, one of the national organization's most active chapters.Lizzy received a BA in English with distinction from Kenyon College and has a master's degree in security policy and international media from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. While in graduate school in 2011 and 2012, she was a senior editor of the Journal of International Affairs, a leading foreign affairs periodical, and a head teaching assistant for the school's department of statistics and quantitative analysis. A California native, Lizzy has traveled in Asia, Central and South America, South Africa, and Western Europe.
