The instrument is called a “sheng.” It looks like a tiny castle and sounds like Nintendo.
People love to play the theme song to Super Mario brothers. It's great on every instrument you can imagine and it never fails to delight.
Well this young woman just dropped the most remarkable version you'll ever hear, during a concert in Taipei called, "The Power of Sheng."
The sheng is an ancient Chinese reed instrument that looks like a tiny Dracula castle and dates to around 1100 B.C.E.
It's apparently perfect for 8-bit Nintendo music. This young virtuoso not only nails the theme song, she's got some epic gameplay sound effects, too!
It's so good, especially the second half. Enjoy.
