Brazil is marking three days of national mourning for the victims of the fire at a nightclub in the southern city of Santa Maria.
A woman, who was wounded during a fire at Boate Kiss nightclub, is transferred from a hospital in Santa Maria to receive treatment at Porto Alegre hospital in the southern city of Santa Maria, 187 miles (301 km) west of the state capital Porto Alegre early January 28, 2013. The nightclub fire killed at least 232 people in Santa Maria early on Sunday when a band’s pyrotechnics show set the building ablaze and fleeing partygoers stampeded toward blocked and overcrowded exits in the ensuing panic, officials said. At least 230 people were killed — most of them from smoke inhalation.
