In an era when the Violence Against Women Act has proven to be hugely divisive, and budgets are being slashed because of the sequester, the Department of Justice has awarded millions in grant money to domestic violence prevention programs.
Ten states are receiving a total of $2.3 million dollars to bolster their efforts to prevent domestic violence homicides. The new program is called the Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Demonstration Initiative. Integral to the initiative is Suzanne C. Dubus, the CEO of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, which advocates for the end of domestic violence and provides care for victims.
