Developers are trying to build port facilities in the Pacific Northwest to ship Powder Ridge Basin coal to Asia, but half of the proposed projects have been canceled. Most recently, Kinder Morgan dumped its plans to build a facility at the Port of St. Helen’s on the Columbia River in Oregon.
Three of the six proposed port facilities designed to ship coal to Asia from the Pacific Northwest have been abandoned. Ashley Ahearn of the public broadcasting collaborative EarthFix talks with host Steve Curwood about the energy company Kinder Morgan’s decision to scrap its plans to build at the Port of St. Helen’s.
