South America’s booming economies

Richard Reynolds reports on the booming economies of South America, and why it may be premature to compare them to China.

For the Geo Quiz, we’re looking for a South American country that’s enjoying an economic boom. The country we want you to name is South America’s second largest – after Brazil. A century ago, it was considered wealthy but at the beginning of this century, in 2001, it suffered a devastating economic crisis.

Now, it’s back to a booming economy. In fact, this is among the nations that some are calling the “Latin Tigers.” So, can you name South America’s second largest nation?

The answer is Argentina: it’s economy has enjoyed a growth-spurt recently – as have the economies of Brazil, Chile and Peru. But, as Richard Reynolds reports from Buenos Aires – it may be a bit soon to compare them to Taiwan or China.
