Sarah Elzas reports that the Paris leg of the Olympic torch relay was cut short today after anti-China protests disrupted the event; such protests are expected all along the torch’s path to Beijing.
Hundreds of police officers in riot gear turned out to keep the protesters at bay. Demonstrators waved the Tibetan flag, some threw water at the flag and others lunged at it trying to put it out. A few in the crowd tried to get at an athlete in a wheelchair who was carrying the torch. Shortly after that police had to put the torch on a bus. A separate human rights protest was held away from the torch as well. There were some Chinese supporters along the march as well though.
