In December 2007, A.J. Larson, 20, was behind the wheel of his car, texting his girlfriend, when he accidentally drove through a stop sign and was struck by a garbage truck. Larson was killed in the accident. Larson’s mother, Kelly Cline, has been working to get a law passed in New York State to outlaw texting while driving. Kline has formed a group called Families Against Texting While Driving, which has over a thousand supporters in New York. We talk with Cline about her efforts and the seriousness of electronic distractions for drivers.
