The embattled managing director for the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was denied bail yesterday, after being arrested and charged over the weekend with raping a Manhattan hotel maid. His arrest has shocked and angered many in France, where he was considered by many a strong candidate for the presidency.
