In Islam, the donation of land for religious use is a form of philanthropy known as waqf, and it’s central to the faith. A new law that just passed in India gives the government more control over the management of waqf land. It’s being seen by India’s sizable Muslim population as the latest in a series of measures undermining their rights, and furthering a Hindu nationalist agenda.
