Myanmar is still devastated after an earthquake three days ago flattened villages and parts of cities, trapping people under rubble. The official death toll so far is 1,700 and rising, though the United States Geological Survey — using satellite images — estimates the quake possibly killed as many as 100,000 people. Myanmar’s military rulers are making this calamity even worse by launching airstrikes against resistance fighters near the quake’s epicenter. As The World’s Patrick Winn reports, the army is also neglecting civilians in rebellious areas.
