Fatoumata Diawara emigrated from Mali in 2001. She was 19 when she left her parents and 10 siblings to join a theater company in France. Times were different back then. It was a bit easier to pack up and move and it was also easier to migrate elsewhere. Now, in 2018, with borders tightening up, it’s given her pause as she sees migrant boats being turned away in Mediterranean waters.
